Exclusive F-16 Fighter Pilot Video Trailer

This fall I had the assignment of a lifetime, flying with F-16 fighter pilots of the 120th Fighter Squadron at Colorado’s Buckley Air Force Base. Here is a sneak-peak trailer of the project, shot for 5280 Magazine, incorporating Canon’s 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV video and still images; these DSLR cameras have revolutionized the possibilities for multimedia! American Photo Magazine “Images of the Year” Cover

I am honored and humbled to see my picture of Colorado wildfire fighter Nick Collard gracing the cover of American Photo Magazine’s “2009 Images of the Year” issue — and to be named the contest’s Grand Prize Winner. The photo is also featured as a 2-page spread as the Extreme category winner. American Photo received over 4,000 submissions for this year’s contest. My shot of skier Willie Volckhausen jumping off a slope in Aspen ran in the January 11 issue of Sports Illustrated. The ad for MTNaccess Club reached one million subscribers in the Northeast region.

Cabela’s Fly Fishing Cover Image

The spring 2010 Cabela’s fly-fishing catalog just launched with my cover image, as well as numerous inside images. This was a fun project as we shot with my good friend Mike Shook on the beautiful Roaring Fork River at sunrise. Mike is an expert fly-fishing guide here in the Aspen valley and the author of six fly-fishing guidebooks, available on his website. A big thank-you to Jason Brazda from Cabela’s for his art direction on location.

Shooting The 2010 SmartWool Campaign

I was excited to work with SmartWool this fall for their 2010 campaign featuring their latest garments (I’ve never seen models so excited about their clothing during a shoot — this stuff was an instant hit). Our first setup in Aspen was an early morning ski conditioning class; the models really shined in this high-energy workout scene and we got some great images. We finished off with a beautiful country road scene in Old Snowmass. Garett Mariano of SmartWool brought his great art direction and enthusiasm to the project; I am excited to be working with him again this winter in Aspen for their upcoming skiing campaign.

Photo Feature in Spirit Magazine

Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine features my images of outdoor-survival expert Logan Darby in their January issue. Logan is featured in the article “The Happiest Man on Earth (and from the fun afternoon I spent shooting with him, I’d have to agree with the title). My 1st Assistant Draper and I shot the opening spread in Colorado’s spectacular Black Canyon of the Gunnison at sunset.

Behind the Scenes of the Stetson Campaign

We had an exciting four-day shoot in Colorado this summer for Stetson’s latest national ad campaign, and I’m excited to be able to share the images. The scenes ranged from a hero shot of a Stetson cologne bottle set against the majestic Maroon Bells to lifestyle scenes at a rural fire station, a working ranch, and Aspen’s famed Belly Up nightclub. Many thanks to agency partners Gregg Bergan, Jerry Stafford and Eric Espinoza of Pure Brand Communications in Denver and everyone from Stetson.

Aspen & Snowmass Images in National Mags

The first snowflakes have fallen on the slopes of Aspen and Snowmass, and I’m excited to see several of my images published in national magazines this month. Snowmass is running an ad campaign in Travel & Leisure that I shot last season — thank you to Traci Schalow of Promotional Concepts for art-directing the shoot. Also, the November issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine features two of my photos, including a 2-page spread of snowboarder Tyler Wilcox launching into the stunning Cirque at Snowmass. And Elevation Outdoors has my cover image of Pat Sewell cliff jumping in Aspen for their Oct/Nov issue.

Shooting in an F-16

This week I had the incredible opportunity to fly in an F-16 with the 120th Fighter Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado for an assignment with 5280 magazine. I brought several Canon cameras with me in the cockpit, capturing powerful stills and video over the Rocky Mountains while four other F-16s flew right on our wing. Captain TenEyck LaTourrette piloted our ship with aplomb (and drilled me with a surprise 7.5 Gs right at takeoff … uggh). A special thanks to Captain Kristin Haley for making this shoot possible!
