I am honored and humbled to see my picture of Colorado wildfire fighter Nick Collard gracing the cover of American Photo Magazine’s “2009 Images of the Year” issue — and to be named the contest’s Grand Prize Winner. The photo is also featured as a 2-page spread as the Extreme category winner. American Photo received over 4,000 submissions for this year’s contest. My shot of skier Willie Volckhausen jumping off a slope in Aspen ran in the January 11 issue of Sports Illustrated. The ad for MTNaccess Club reached one million subscribers in the Northeast region.
The spring 2010 Cabela’s fly-fishing catalog just launched with my cover image, as well as numerous inside images. This was a fun project as we shot with my good friend Mike Shook on the beautiful Roaring Fork River at sunrise. Mike is an expert fly-fishing guide here in the Aspen valley and the author of six fly-fishing guidebooks, available on his website. A big thank-you to Jason Brazda from Cabela’s for his art direction on location.
I was excited to work with SmartWool this fall for their 2010 campaign featuring their latest garments (I’ve never seen models so excited about their clothing during a shoot — this stuff was an instant hit). Our first setup in Aspen was an early morning ski conditioning class; the models really shined in this high-energy workout scene and we got some great images. We finished off with a beautiful country road scene in Old Snowmass. Garett Mariano of SmartWool brought his great art direction and enthusiasm to the project; I am excited to be working with him again this winter in Aspen for their upcoming skiing campaign.
